Area Idaho State Police officers responded to three separate fatal traffic accidents during the weekend.
A motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday.
Jason Huffine, 22, of Pocatello was driving his motorcycle westbound on US-30 when Marea Betty, 61, of Lava Hot Springs, pulled out from a private driveway in a sport utility vehicle, police said. Huffine’s motorcycle struck the SUV, police said.
Huffine reportedly succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
Betty was transported by ambulance to Portneuf Regional Medical Center.
Huffine was not wearing his helmet at the time of the crash. Betty was wearing her seatbelt.
The crash is under investigation.
A Utah man died Saturday night after his car rear-ended a potato truck on Interstate 86 west of Pocatello, state Police said.
Dean Rottini, 57, of Toole, Utah, was pronounced dead at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello following the 8:22 p.m. crash, state police said.
Rottini had been transported via ambulance to PMC after his 2004 Audi TT coupe struck the rear of a 2012 Peterbuilt potato hauler driven by Christian Saldana, 21, of American Falls, state police said.
Both vehicles were heading westbound on Interstate 86 east of the Arbon Valley exit when the collision occurred and they ended up on the right shoulder of the freeway, state police said.
Rottini was not wearing a seat belt, and reports indicated that he was trapped in his wreck vehicle and required extrication by emergency personnel.
Saldana was wearing a seat belt and did not require hospitalization, state police said.
A 38-year-old Pocatello man died Sunday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 20 near milepost 332 in Rexburg, state police said.
Police responded to the crash at 4:20 p.m.
Police said Heath B. Babcock, Pocatello, was driving a 2014 Ram cargo van, and Jeramy L. Nutt, 43, of Las Vegas, was driving a 2013 Peterbuilt semi pulling a single trailer.
Babcock and Nutt were both reportedly traveling westbound in the right lane. Babcock’s vehicle struck the rear of Nutt’s trailer. Babcock succumbed to his injuries at the scene, police said. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
The westbound lanes of travel were blocked for about three hours and forty minutes.
State Police were assisted by the Rexburg Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison Fire Department and the Idaho Transportation Department.
