Man accused of shooting child with BB gun pleads not guilty
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of child abuse after authorities say he shot a girl twice with a BB gun.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports John Thellman enter his plea Tuesday in Natrona County District Court and he remained free on a $2,500 surety bond.
Prosecutors say Thellman shot a child who was younger than 5 years old after she entered a residence in Mills in August.
According to court documents, the child was taken to a hospital and two BBs were removed from her chest and face.
According to court documents, Thellman told Mills police that the shooting was an accident. He said he was firing the gun at the door when the girl unexpectedly walked in.
