Pitt gets pledge from Florida wide receiver, boosts class to 17
Pitt increased its class of 2019 to 17 prospects Thursday when wide receiver Jared Wayne of Clearwater (Fla.) Academy tweeted his plans to enroll next year.
Wayne, a big pass catcher at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com. He is the first wide receiver in Pitt’s class. He also has offers from Bowling Green, Old Dominion and South Florida.
Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi has been busy adding to his recruiting class this week, getting three pledges since July 27 as he prepared for the first drills of summer training camp Friday. Pitt also got verbal commitments from offensive lineman Matthew Montcalves of Manorville, N.Y., and defensive back A.J. Woods of Germanton, Md.
No one in Pitt’s ’19 class goes to a WPIAL school, but Wayne’s commitment raised the Panthers’ national team ranking to 30, sixth in the ACC, according to Rivals.
