Democrats donate to Veterans Resource Center
BULLHEAD CITY — The River Valley Democratic Club on Thursday delivered a large assortment of items for local veterans in need to the Northern Arizona Veterans Resource Center.
The Democrats’ annual holiday party was the original drop point. Guests were asked to bring such items as warm clothing, blankets, underwear and socks.
There were more than 200 pairs of socks alone. Along with bottled water, clean socks are a necessity for those living on the street.
“Our members really came through,” said Charlie Costello, the club’s secretary. “People went out and shopped.”
There are about 40 regular members and up to 60 others interested in the club’s activities.
The Democrats have been collecting for the resource center this way annually for the past few years, Costello said.
One of the members donated an array of unused clothing — including a large amount of career attire.
Another member wasn’t sure what to donate so they simply wrote out a check for $100.
Mark Tierce, the VRC’s site director, said he was grateful and happy to accept the donation, which filled space in two club members’ vehicles to deliver to the center.
The VRC will distribute these donations. Throughout the year this organization helps veterans fulfill critical housing needs and works with them and their family members to provide — or refer them — to appropriate support resources.
During the year, members of the club are asked to bring canned goods to meetings, Costello added.
