Passenger in car killed after firing at LA County deputy
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has shot and killed a man authorities say fired a handgun after getting out of a stopped car.
It happened at about 1 a.m. Thursday in South Los Angeles.
The Sheriff’s Department says the deputy stopped an SUV for vehicle violations but the front passenger got out and tried to leave.
Authorities say the deputy ordered him several times to stop but instead the man pulled a handgun and fired at least one shot at the deputy, who then shot him in the upper and lower torso.
The man died at the scene. He’s believed to be in his 20s but his identity hasn’t been released.
