LA CORUNA, Spain (AP) _ A Cyprian-registered cargo ship ran aground off this northwestern port Sunday, and a Spanish Red Cross crewman who fell into the sea during rescue operations was missing, coast guard officials said.

A crewman of the rescue vessel Blanca Quiroga vanished into the sea while trying to pick up crew members of the 3,865-ton Mitera Sotillo, they said.

The Mitera Sotillo was bound from Italy to Bilbao in northern Spain when heavy seas dragged it to a point three miles offshore, where it ran aground, the coast guard said.

The ship radioed for help early Sunday when adrift about 15 miles offshore.

Three Spanish tugs and a helicopter rescued 10 of the Mitera Sotillo's crewmen. Five others refused to leave the ship.
