Homeless Man Burned in Car
PHOENIX, Ariz. (AP) _ Assailants severely beat a 68-year-old man, who was found helpless inside his burning car by police. The man later died at a hospital, and two men were arrested in connection with his death.
Herman Moore, a transient, was pulled from the car Wednesday after an officer in the area noticed the back of the vehicle was on fire, said police Sgt. Andy Anderson. However, he died several hours later at Good Samaritan Medical Center.
Police arrested two men who were standing on a nearby curb when police arrived, Anderson said. The men told officers they were there trying to help, he said.
Jason Drews, 22, and Alton Futch, 18, who had been living in a Job Corps building downtown, were booked for investigation of one count each of first- degree murder, arson and aggravated robbery, officials said.
Moore had been robbed Monday and Wednesday, allegedly by the two men, the police spokesman said.
