Names Daniell CEO
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ United Technologies Corp. board of directors elected a successor Monday for Harry J. Gray as the corporation’s chief executive officer.
Robert F. Daniell, president and chief operating officer, will assume the additional post as of Jan. 1, 1986. He appears to be in line to assume the chairmanship, too.
Gray, who has been chief executive officer since October 1972, will continue as chairman of UTC and chairman of the board’s Finance Committee. But he has said he will retire in December.
″The action taken today was part of a succession plan agreed on by the board earlier this year,″ Gray said in prepared statement. ″Bob Daniell has done an outstanding job as our president and chief operating officer during the past year ... He has my and the board’s full endorsement and support as UTC continues its growth and development in the years ahead.″
Daniell, 51, joined the corporation’s Sikorsky Division as a design engineer in 1956 and later served as project engineer on several of the company’s major helicopter programs. He later held senior marketing and management posts at Sikorsky and was the division’s president and chief executive officer before moving to the corporation as a vice president in 1982. He was named UTC’s senior vice president for defense systems in June 1983.
Daniell was named UTC’s president and chief operating officer in October 1984.
