Cliven Bundy court appearance to draw demonstrators in Vegas

March 10, 2016

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Backers of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy are promising a show of support outside a federal courthouse where he’s facing charges related to an armed standoff against federal agents two years ago.

Bundy’s wife, Carol Bundy, and other family members and friends say an organized demonstration before Thursday’s court appearance aims to show they’re keeping up their fight against the federal government.

Las Vegas police and U.S. marshals say they expect some protesters will be armed. Nevada allows open-carrying of guns.

Bundy is among 19 people accused of organizing a gunpoint standoff in April 2014 that stopped federal agents from rounding up cattle from public land near Bundy’s ranch.

Charges include conspiracy, assault, obstruction and threatening federal officers.

Bundy denies U.S. government authority over rangeland around his property.
