Treasury Bond Prices Fall
NEW YORK (AP) _ Treasury bond prices were falling in afternoon trading today.
The price of the Treasury’s 10-year note was down 1/4 point, or $2.50 per $1,000 in face value, in early afternoon trading, while its yield rose to 6.52 percent from 6.49 percent late Wednesday. Prices and yields move in opposite directions.
The 30-year bonds were down 3/8 point and yielded 6.21 percent, up from 6.18 percent late Wednesday.
Yields on three-month Treasury bills were 5.88 percent as the discount tumbled 0.14 percentage point from late Wednesday to 5.73 percent. Six-month yields were 6.37 percent as the discount fell 0.04 percentage point to 6.10 percent. One-year yields were 6.29 percent as the discount fell 0.04 point to 5.99 percent.
Yields are the interest bonds pay by maturity, while the discount is the interest at which they are sold.
