KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Dwayne Grace scored 17 points, including two free throws that broke the final tie of the game with 8:35 remaining, as Charleston, S.C., defeated Taylor, Ind., 57-47 in the first round of the NAIA men’s basketball tournament Thursday.
The 16th-seeded Cougars, 25-8, led 26-22 at the half. Two free throws by Tom Granitz, who led Taylor with 15 points, had tied the score at 37 with 8:49 to go.
Charleston, leading 42-40 with 5:50 left, then pulled away with eight straight points en route to its 10th consecutive victory.
The Trojans, making their second appearance in the national tournament, finished 26-7.
