Ten-man Porto beats Arouca 1-0 in Portuguese league
LISBON, Portugal (AP) — FC Porto eked out a 1-0 win at home over Arouca despite being a man down for 78 minutes in the Portuguese league on Sunday.
Porto goalkeeper Fabiano was shown a straight red card in the 12th minute after he fouled an Arouca player outside the area. Helton went on as his replacement and kept a clean sheet, despite playing with one less defender.
Porto striker Vincent Aboubakar scored the winner in the 32nd minute when he headed in Ricardo Quaresma’s pass.
Porto remained second in the standings, four points behind leader Benfica.
Third-place Sporting Lisbon won 1-0 at Maritimo thanks to Adrien Silva’s first-half penalty kick.
Also, it was: Academica 2, Nacional 1; Gil Vicente 0, Moreirense 1; and Penafiel 0, Rio Ave 2.
