J.P. Morgan, Amgen Open China Offices
BEIJING (AP) _ The investment bank J.P. Morgan and Co. Inc. opened its first Chinese branch in Beijing on Monday and said authorities have approved a second office in Shanghai.
J.P. Morgan’s offices in China will advise foreign clients on investment opportunities in China and help the Chinese government and Chinese companies raise capital. The bank also is eager to play a leading role in underwriting more Chinese government bonds and stock issues overseas.
Also Monday, the biotechnology firm Amgen Inc. opened its first Chinese office, also in Beijing, the official Xinhua news agency reported. Amgen will open offices in Guangzhou and Shanghai by the end of February, Xinhua said.
