Site prep underway for West Ludington Avenue Beautification Project
Excavation and site preparation work are now fully underway for the city’s West Ludington Avenue Beautification Project.
Vehicles from Schultz Excavating on Wednesday removed guard rails and demolished asphalt at the site, from the area closest to Lake Michigan up to the intersection with Stearns Drive.
The approximately $467,750 project will repave Ludington Avenue west of Stearns Drive and transform it from a parking lot into an area designed for pedestrian strolling, community events and scenic viewing.
Activity at the site began Monday with the placement of the trailer for the project’s general contractor, Tridonn Construction, and workers started with small tasks such as taking measurements.
Now the parking lot is demolished to make way for the construction. The 51 spaces that had been public parking will be replaced by nine parking spaces, new sidewalks, a promenade, benches, planters, an overlook and a kayak rack.
