High school fishing tournament set for Thursday
CENTER HARBOR, N.H. (AP) — Students from dozens of New Hampshire high schools will be on Lake Winnipesaukee this week hoping to advance in the state’s student bass fishing tournament.
The top third of the schools from Thursday’s qualifying round will progress to the state finals being held Sept. 29 on Lake Sunapee.
New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say bass fishing has become an increasingly popular high school sport since the student tournaments started in 2013. Teams include adult mentors who teach participants about the state’s resources and their responsibilities as anglers.
The tournaments are conducted by the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association with help from Fish and Game and N.H. B.A.S.S. Nation.
