Jets’ Martin Ties Sanders’ NFL Mark

November 21, 2004

CLEVELAND (AP) _ New York Jets running back Curtis Martin on Sunday became the second player in NFL history to begin his career with 10 straight 1,000-yard seasons.

With an 8-yard run in the first quarter against the Cleveland Browns, Martin went over 1,000 yards this season and joined Hall of Famer Barry Sanders as the only players to accomplish the feat.

Martin, though, bruised his right knee in the second quarter and came out after picking up 61 yards on 12 carries. He returned for the first series of the second half.

Martin entered the game as the league’s seventh all-time leading rusher with 12,653 yards, trailing Jerome Bettis by 81 yards and Tony Dorsett by 87.
