LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — Third-ranked Gonzaga has beaten No. 1 Duke to win the Maui Invitational. Rui Hachimura scored 20 points and No. 3 Gonzaga blocked four shots in the final 46 seconds to complete an 89-87 win over the Blue Devils. Duke erased a 16-point, second-half deficit before losing in the tournament for the first time in 18 games.
NEW YORK (AP) — Second-ranked Kansas and No. 5 Tennessee have advanced to the NIT Season Tip-Off title game in Brooklyn. Grant Williams scored 24 points to lead five Tennessee players in double-figures as the Vols handled Louisville, 92-81. Dedric Lawson had a double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds as the Jayhawks rallied past Marquette, 77-68.
CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James made his return to Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday and received a hero’s welcome before helping the Los Angeles Lakers knock off his old team. James finished with 32 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists in the Lakers’ 109-105 win over the Cavaliers. He scored or assisted on 11 straight points as Los Angeles overcame a 99-91 deficit in the final period.
TORONTO (AP) — Kyle Lowry posted his first triple-double of the season with 21 points, 17 assists and 12 rebounds as the Toronto Raptors thumped the Atlanta Hawks, 124-108. Jonas Valanciunas (YOH’-nuhs val-ehn-CHOO’-nuhs) had season-high totals of 24 points and 13 rebounds for the 15-4 Raptors, while Pascal Siakam (see-AK’-am) added 22. Former Raptor Vince Carter went over 25,000 career points with a slam in the final second.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH’-nihs an-teh-toh-KOOM’-poh) matched his season high of 33 points in the Milwaukee Bucks’ 143-100 trouncing of the Portland Trail Blazers. Antetokounmpo added 16 rebounds and nine assists in 30 minutes as the 13-4 Bucks avenged an early season loss to Portland in a rematch of teams off to fast starts. CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard each had 22 points for the Trail Blazers, who entered with the best record in the NBA’s Western Conference before slipping to 12-6.
