Liberty 67, Florida International 51

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) _ Marcus White had 16 points and nine rebounds Friday as Liberty beat Florida International 67-51 in the season-opener for both schools.

Liberty went on a 13-2 first-half run to take a 30-11 lead after Jay Boykin hit two free throws. Florida International cut that lead to 41-39 by opening the second half with an 11-4 run sparked by seven points from Joe Cross.

The Flames pulled away by hitting 8 of 14 free throws down the stretch.

Walter Graham had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Flames, who had a 45-30 rebounding advantage.

Cross led Florida International with 13 points, while Quincey Gamble had 11 and Gene Derkack 10. The Golden Panthers were 3 of 20 on 3-point attempts.
