BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) _ Australian Steve Elkington overcame a two-stroke deficit Sunday to defeat Felix Casas of the Philippines in the $300,000 Honda City Invitational golf tournament.

Elkington shot a final 3-under-par 69 for a four-round total of 7-under 281. He was pushed all the way by third-round leader Casas, whose final day 72 left him one stroke behind.

Elkington’s share of the purse was $48,450.

Australians Robert Fowler and Robert Willis trailed at 283. Each shot a 69 Sunday on the 7,023-yard Canyon Course in the seaside resort of Phuket.

Following at 285 were Lin Chih-chen, who fired the day’s best score, 66; Taiwan compatriot Li Wen-sheng, who shot 69, and Andrew Bonhomme of Australia, who had a 73.

TOKYO (AP) _ Former Seattle Mariner Alonzo Powell went 4-for-4 with two doubles, leading the Chunichi Dragons to an 8-5 victory over the Central League’s front-running Yokohama BayStars at Nagoya Sunday.

At Tokyo Dome, Terry Bross, formerly with the Chicago White Sox, gave up four hits over six innings for his third victory against three defeats as the Yakult Swallows beat the Yomiuri Giants 6-3.

Bernardo Brito singled home the first run in the fourth inning and Rob Ducey hit a home run in the two-run sixth as the Nippon Ham Fighters beat the Kintetsu Buffaloes 5-3 at Fujiidera.

At Seibu Stadium, Troy Neel of the Orix Blue Wave doubled home two runs in the four-run seventh inning in a 7-3 victory over the Seibu Lions.

At Fukuoka Dome, Jack Daugherty singled home two runs in the top of the ninth as the the Chiba Lotte Marines overcame a 7-1 deficit to defeat the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks.

Italian wins Croatian Ladies Tennis Tournament

BOL, Croatia (AP) _ Italy’s Gloria Pizzichini defeated Silvia Talaja of Croatia to win the Croatian Ladies’ Open tennis tournament that was postponed the past four years due to war in the former Yugoslavia.

Pizzichini, ranked 150th by the WTA, needed just 64 minutes to defeat the 18-year old Talaja, 6-0, 6-2. It was Pizzichini’s best performance since getting through the first two rounds at Wimbledon in 1993. Her prize money was $107,500.
