Keeping in Touch update is under way

January 10, 2019

With the completion of an election cycle, it results in Daily News staff members compiling information for our Keeping in Touch feature in print and online.

This is a kind of low-profile community service task, but it’s important. Where else, for example, can Norfolkans and area residents find contact information for nearly 50 elected and appointed officials all in one easy-to-use setting?

Staff members here have been busy contacting the appropriate individuals and securing the desired contact information, along with photographs if need be. For each, the information includes his or her name, office held, telephone number and email address along with a photograph so citizens can put a name together with a face.

All of that information then is compiled into a full page that will run periodically in the print editions of the Daily News. Readers who prefer getting their information that way can pull the page and save it for future reference.

But we’ll also post the same information online on our website at www.norfolkdailynews.com and on our mobile app that can be downloaded for free for either Apple or android devices.

Who all is included in the Keeping in Touch page or posting? Here’s the list:

— Nebraska’s two U.S. senators.

— The two members of the U.S. House of Representatives who serve Northeast and North Central Nebraska.

— The governor and statewide constitutional offices of attorney general, treasurer and secretary of state.

— The eight state senators whose legislative districts encompass parts of Northeast and North Central Nebraska.

— The member of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents who serves Northeast Nebraska.

— The member of the Nebraska State Board of Education who represents this corner of the state.

— The Madison County commissioners, as well as the county clerk, county zoning administrator and chairman of the joint planning commission.

— The general manager of the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District in Norfolk and the NRD’s board chairman.

— The president of Northeast Community College and its board chairman.

— The mayor of Norfolk and all city council members as well as the city administrator, workforce development director and chairman of the Norfolk planning commission.

— All members of the Norfolk school board as well as the superintendent of schools and four other key administrators.

With winter all around us, I also wanted to point out to online users of the Daily News website that school, church and event cancellations and postpones are now easier to find than ever by turning to the Daily News.

On the website home page near the top of the page is a menu bar with weather as one of the headings. Click on that and a pull-down menu will provide the top option of cancellations and postponements. Click on that and you’ll have all the most current information available.
