LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) _ Shawn Moore scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Monday as Marshall beat VMI 112-87.

Moore hit 10 of Marshall’s 17 3-pointers as the Thundering Herd tied the previous Southern Conference record for 3-pointers scored by a team in a single game. VMI set the record in a 1991 game against Shenandoah.

VMI (2-9, 0-2 Southern) led for the final time at 15:54 in the first half, with the score at 11-10. By halftime, Marshall (10-3, 2-0) led 57-43.

Marshall stretched the lead to 25 twice in the second half, the second time on the last shot of the game, a jumper by Thad Bonapart.

Marshall scored 56 percent in the second half, holding the Keydets to 40 percent shooting.

Seven of Marshall’s nine players scored in double digits. Malik Hightower had 21 points, Troy Gray scored 16 points, Doug Schieppe added 15 and Tink Brown 13. Curtis Raymond had 12 points and Bonapart 10.

VMI pulled within eight at 17:10 in the second half on a 3-pointer by Aron Buss.

VMI’s Bryan Taueg scored 23 points, and Lester Johnson added 21 and 12 rebounds. Warren Johnson had 14 points.
