Phillies Extend GM’s Contract
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ The Philadelphia Phillies have extended the contract of general manager Ed Wade two years, through the 2002 season.
``As part of the agreement, Ed’s contract adds another year (2003) next Nov. 1,″ Phillies president David Montgomery said Monday.
Wade, 43, was promoted from assistant general manager to acting GM two years ago, succeeding Lee Thomas, and became vice president and general manager in March 1998, signing a two-year contract that rolled into a yearly agreement starting next year.
``We have made substantial improvement to the nucleus of our club for which Ed deserves the credit,″ Montgomery said.
