Missing person accused of battery
An arrest warrant has been issued for a 26-year-old man identified as a missing person in January by his family.
Jabari B. Mbwelera was reportedly last heard from when he called for a ride home Jan. 16 at a Lassus Handy Dandy gas station on Spy Run Avenue.
Now, Mbwelera is wanted for a felony battery that occurred on the same day, according to court documents.
A man told police that he picked up Mbwelera about 8 p.m. that day and took him to his apartment where he gave him a ham sandwich. After Mbwelera ate the sandwich, he picked up a frying pan and knife and came at the victim, court documents said.
Mbwelera bashed the victim on the head, arm and chest with the frying pan and jabbed his arms with the knife, documents said. The victim told police Mbwelera also tried to choke him but wasn’t able to because of the blood coming from the victim’s head and face.
Mbwelera left after dragging the victim into the bathroom and placing him in the bath tub, according to court documents.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mbwelera is asked to call Fort Wayne police at 260-427-1222.
