D’Amore and Van Mellis of Holland win junior road races
SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain (AP) _ Crescenzo D’Amato of Italy won the men’s title and Mirella Van Melis of Holland took the women’s crown in the junior road races at the World Cycling Championships Friday.
In the men’s 75-mile road race, D’Amato was timed in 2 hours, 54 minutes and 49 seconds, the same time for Swiss rider Martin Bolt who got the silver medal and for Margus Salumets of Estonia who was third.
Van Melis was timed in 1 hour, 50 minutes and 19 seconds to win her first world title. Swiss Nicole Braendli was second in the 41.8-mile race, and Sofie Andersson of Sweden was third. Both riders, silver and bronze medal respectively, clocked the same time as Van Melis at the finish.
