N.Y. Stock Exchange May Move
NEW YORK (AP) _ A published report says the New York Stock Exchange may ditch its historic Wall Street home in favor of a new skyscraper at Battery Park City.
The New York Post reports City Hall and exchange officials have labored for nearly a year to expand the exchange’s 93-year-old headquarters on the corner of Wall and Broad streets.
One plan was to take over five surrounding parcels.
But sources tell the Post property owners are demanding huge prices -- making it cheaper to simply build a new home for the exchange.
It would take about $400 million to keep the exchange where it is and expand it.
A new building would cost only about $100 million.
