CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) _ The star of a Cuban jazz show defected this week after performances at one of the city’s luxury hotels, a local newspaper reported.
Jose Francisco Alejo Hernandez, the lead musician with the show ″That’s the Way Havana Sings,″ disappeared from his room at the Hotel Tamanaco Intercontinental on Tuesday night and turned up with members of a local human rights group Wednesday, the daily El Universal reported.
″I feel free for the first time in my life,″ Alejo was quoted as saying in Thursday’s report. It was not clear if he had formally requested political asylum from his Communist homeland.
