Woman Dies After Throwing Baby To Safety
MANLIUS, N.Y. (AP) _ A woman who threw her 2-month-old daughter to safety from the second story of her burning home has died, police say.
Patricia Brunette, 29, apparently was sleeping on the first floor of her home in this Syracuse suburb when the fire started Monday, police Sgt. Daniel Harrington said.
Mrs. Brunette ran upstairs as a neighbor called for her to throw the child, Vanessa, out the window, Harrington said. Getting no response, the neighbor tried to go into the house, then heard the child crying on the lawn.
Vanessa suffered a cut on the cheek and possible burns, Harrington said. She was in serious condition Monday at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.
Mrs. Brunette died later Monday at the hospital, he said.
Her husband, Robert Brunette, was at work at the time of the fire, he said.
