Basketball Star Arrested Over Loud Radio
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) _ New York Knicks top draft pick John Wallace was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Wednesday night for playing his car radio too loudly during a visit to his hometown.
Police said an uncooperative Wallace, the first of three first-round draft picks by the Knicks, was taken into custody Wednesday night when he failed to follow officers’ instructions.
Wallace also was charged with violating the city’s noise ordinance. His cousin Rodney Young, who was riding with him, also was charged with disorderly conduct.
A judge told both Thursday the charges would be dropped if they stayed out of trouble for six months. Wallace refused to comment to a throng of reporters at the courthouse.
If Wallace had followed police instructions, he would have been issued a ticket for playing loud music, said Sgt. Mark Freese said. Instead, he was arrested and his 1996 Range Rover was impounded.
