Twila Marie (Nelson) Taylor, 85, of Ponca, went home to Jesus on Sept. 17, 2018, while surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ponca State Park Resource Center, with the Rev. Jeff Peters officiating. Burial will be in Ponca Cemetery. Twila was born in Yankton, S.D., on July 27, 1933, to Gehard and Marian (Nielsen) Nelson. She was the youngest daughter of 11 children. She grew up in Maskell, Neb., and later moved to Ponca where she met and married Richard “Dick” Taylor on May 20, 1950. To this union eight children were born.

Twila was an active member of Christ the King Community Church. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Twila had a deep faith and a life long mission to make a difference in the people she met. She was a caregiver for countless people, young and old, and instilled the importance of loving Jesus and being kind to all you meet. She had a love for coffee and teaching us all to make apple pies.

Left to carry on her mission here are her children, Brenda (Ron) McGill, Don (Carla) Taylor, Joan (the late Jeff) Taylor, Merrie (Terry) Eriksen, Lisa (Kenny) Hohenstein, Holly (Tom) Walsh, and Melanie (Mark) Charlson; 30 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren with two more by December; sister, Leona Bottorff; brother, Dale (Catherine) Nelson; and sisters-in-law, Mavis Nelson, Gloria Nelson, and Rose Munson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Richard “Dick” Taylor in October 2012; a son, Jeff and infant son, Demi; grandson, Christian Charlson; and siblings, Don (Sylvia) Nelson, Adeline (Hugh) Bostwick, Gordon (Tood) Nelson, Gaylord (Molly) Nelson, Ronald Nelson, Myrna (Ray) Rahn, Ramona (Elmer) Kamrath, Bob Bottorff, and Garry Nelson.
