EQUAL RIGHTS SUPPORT
BISMARCK, N.D. _ North Dakota’s Republican-controlled Legislature is considering a resolution that seeks to rescind its 1975 support of the Equal Rights Amendment. The resolution sponsored by seven male GOP lawmakers says Congress’ deadline for ratification of the gender-equality amendment came and went in 1979 and is no longer valid. If the resolution is approved by the Legislature, North Dakota would join a handful of other states that ratified the amendment and later took back their votes, though it’s unclear whether those rescissions are valid. Developing.
