Man seriously hurt after being hit by vehicle in West haven
WEST HAVEN - A 31-year-old man was seriously injured after he was struck by a motor vehicle Wednesday night.
Sgt. Charles Young said that accident happened at the intersection of Campbell Avenue and Center Street shortly before 9 p.m.
“Dispatchers originally received a call for a ‘breach of peace’ complaint near Burger King (Campbell/Elm Street) and the parties involved reportedly moved to the area of Campbell/Center where the accident occurred. It is unknown at this time what part, if any, the ‘breach’ played in the resulting accident,” Young said in a release.
“Initial investigation suggests the involved vehicle was traveling south on Campbell Avenue when a male suddenly moved in front of the vehicle. It appears the male made impact with the front bumper, hood and windshield of said vehicle.”
The man suffered what was described as serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital via AMR for medical evaluation/treatment.
“All involved parties were on scene and cooperative,” Young said.
The traffic unit’s Major Accident Squad was called in to complete the investigation.
The investigation may last into the morning hours and anyone traveling near the accident scene is advised to avoid the area of Campbell Avenue from Ashburton Place to Main Street as it will be closed for the duration of the investigation.
