TORONTO (AP) _ Ottawa Senators defenseman Jason York was awarded a one-year, $1.4-million contract by an arbitrator today.

York, represented by agent Don Meehan at Friday's arbitration hearing, was reportedly seeking $2 million a season.

The Senators, who notified other teams Monday that York was available to be traded, still can avoid following the arbitrator's decision by the player an unrestricted free agent.

York, who had four goals and 31 assists in 79 games last season, was stunned to hear the Senators were trying to trade him.

``I'm very disappointed,'' he told the Ottawa Citizen.
