BLACK FARMERS-SOYBEAN LAWSUIT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. _ Some black farmers from Mississippi and Tennessee are returning to federal court for a hearing on their lawsuit claiming a seed company sold them faulty soybean seeds because of their race. Stine Seed Co. has denied accusations that a salesman sold thousands of dollars’ worth of defective seeds to the farmers because they are black. The farmers allege the seeds were much less productive than expected and the salesman misled them with claims of good yields from soybean plants grown in fertile Mississippi Delta fields.

FATAL SHOOTING-DOMESTIC, from SELMER, Tenn. _ Police in Tennessee say a man called 911 to report that he had killed his wife, planned to shoot himself and left his door unlocked for responding authorities.

TENNESSEE VALLEY-RAIN, from NASHVILLE, Tenn. _ A federal utility that serves parts of seven southeastern states says 2018 was the wettest year on record in the Tennessee Valley.

UVA WISE-ENROLLMENT, from WISE, Va. _ The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is looking to boost enrollment by offering discounted tuition to out-of-state students from Appalachia.

FATAL POLICE SHOOTING, from MEMPHIS, Tenn. _ Police in Tennessee have shot and killed a man they say was armed with a knife.
