3rd person sentenced in shooting death of ex-football star
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A third man has been sentenced in connection with the shooting death three years ago of an 18-year-old former high school football standout in Massachusetts.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that 21-year-old Connor Ferguson, of Leicester, was sentenced Tuesday to up to 12 ½ years in prison in the May 2015 death of Sam Castro in Worcester. He had pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April.
Ferguson had originally been charged with murder, but the charge was reduced in exchange for his cooperation with investigators.
The purported gunman and another associate have already been sentenced. A fourth suspect awaits trial.
Prosecutors say the four defendants were members of the same gang and the shooting was apparently gang related.
Castro was a former football standout at Worcester North High School.
