Horses Enlisted to Combat Nude Sunbathing
NEW DELHI, India (AP) _ Police losing their war on nude sunbathing by foreign tourists in the beach resort of Goa went back to nature to escalate their fight - they’re going on horseback.
Mounted police patrols will ″be trained in arresting the culprits on the beach,″ the United News of India reported today.
It quoted a police official as saying the five horses were brought from New Delhi, 850 miles to the northeast, in an effort to halt ″nudism and drug peddling on Goa beaches frequented by hippies and anti-social elements.″
There was no explanation why police on horseback might succeed where their comrades on foot and in motor vehicles have failed in the former Portuguese enclave on India’s western coast 170 miles south of Bombay.
