Janet Evans Wins 400 Freestyle
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (AP) _ Janet Evans, preparing to compete in her final Olympics next month at Atlanta, won a 400 freestyle contest Friday.
Evans posted a time of 4 minutes, 17.18 seconds in the Swim Meet of Champions at Mission Viejo Aquatics Complex. Following her in 4:20.75 was Jennifer Parmenter and in third was Sachiko Yamada of Japan in 4:21.31.
Evans won the 800 freestyle Thursday in 8:41.72. Yamada was second in 8:47.82 and countrywoman Noriko Maekawa was third in 8:51.84.
A meet record was broken in the men’s 200 backstroke. Brad Bridgewater, 23, swam in 2:01.36 besting Derya Buyukuncu’s 1994 record of 2:01.77.
