SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) _ Injured defensive starters Jeff Ulbrich and Zack Bronson returned to practice Thursday and are expect to play for San Francisco on Sunday against Washington.

Ulbrich, a linebacker sidelined since the preseason by a knee injury, ran at full speed for the second straight day. He might not reclaim his starting spot from Jamie Winborn just yet, but coach Steve Mariucci expects Ulbrich to play.

Bronson, a safety who started all 16 games last season, returned to practice after spraining his shoulder Sunday against Denver. Mariucci initially listed Bronson as doubtful, but now expects Bronson to play after upgrading him to questionable.

Pro Bowl offensive linemen Ron Stone and Jeremy Newberry were held out of practice Thursday with minor injuries, but both are expected to play. A cast has been removed from Newberry’s right hand, allowing him to snap the ball properly again after using his left hand in the 49ers’ first two games.
