Rios Powers Into Quarterfinals

ST. POELTEN, Austria (AP) _ Top-seed Marcel Rios of Chile beat Germany’s Marc-Kevin Goellner 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday in the second round of the Raiffeisen Grand Prix ATP tournament.

Rios, who won the championship in 1996, advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals where he will meet Galo Blanco of Spain, who advanced with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Tomas Nydahl of Sweden.

American Vincent Spadea lost his first set, then rallied to beat Australian Richard Fromberg of Australia, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Local favorite Thomas Muster scored a tough, three-set victory over Spaniard Juan Antonio Marin 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2.

Muster next will play defending champion Marcelo Filippini of Uruguay, who defeated Spain’s Oscar Serrano 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
