XGR--ABORTION-MICHIGAN

LANSING, Mich. _ Anti-abortion group Right to Life of Michigan has filed paperwork to begin a petition drive to ban a common second-trimester abortion procedure. The organization made the expected announcement Wednesday, a day after the Republican-led Legislature passed bills to prohibit the dilation and evacuation method and Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she would veto them. SENT: 130 words.

—XGR--E-CIGARETTES-TEENS: Legislation nearing the desk of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer would ban minors from using electronic cigarettes, but it is uncertain if she will sign it.

—NATURAL GAS LEAK: Crews are working to fix a high-pressure natural gas main that was struck during a construction project in western Michigan.

—COURTS-PHONES: The Michigan Supreme Court is accepting comment on a proposal to allow the public to carry phones and other devices into courthouses.

—PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL: Genesee County commissioners hope the state chooses their county as the site for a new psychiatric hospital.
