Wilber man arrested after arranging to meet 13-year-old girl
A Wilber man was arrested by Beatrice police after allegedly having a relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
Police arrested 60-year-old Kenneth Brinton for alleged electronic child enticement, sexual assault by use of a computer and third-degree sexual assault.
Police Lt. Jay Murphy said authorities became aware of the relationship when the girl’s mother approached them.
“She was concerned her daughter was talking to a 60-year-old man on Facebook Messenger,” Murphy said. “I ended up taking over her account and talking to him as if I was the 13 year old. We made arrangements to meet here in town and we eventually met at west Casey’s. At that point he was arrested.”
Murphy said it’s believed Brinton met the girl at the Gage County Fair and the pair have met a few times since then.
Due to comments Brinton made during the arrest he was placed in emergency protective custody and transported to the crisis center in Lincoln.
Murphy encouraged parents to pay attention to who their kids talk to online and call police if they find something concerning.
“Just monitor their social media activity,” Murphy said. “Know the kids’ passwords and their computers. Just take a look at it and monitor it every once in a while.”
