Crane Operator Misses His Mark

July 24, 1991

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) _ A man said he watched in shock from the street as a crane demolishing a house next to his went out of control and smashed into his home.

″When I saw that thing go wild to the right, I began to yell. I thought they were trying to tear down my house, too,″ Gregory George said.

George, his wife and children, Michael, 10, and Dana, 9, were watching from the street when the accident occurred Monday morning.

Brake failure allowed the crane’s boom to swing too far, said Edward Lier, general manager of Anthony’s Construction and Trucking of Youngstown.

The construction company agreed to repair the damage, estimated at less than $1,000, Lier said.
