26th Street Drinkery has food and fun served up weekly
One humble dive bar has decided to “raise the steaks,” as well as its burgers and ribs. The 26th Street Drinkery is a modest little dive bar with an outdoor patio that hosts cornhole in the summer months. It also hosts a pool league on Mondays, trivia night on Wednesdays and karaoke on weekends. In hopes of attracting a daytime crowd owner Renee Marturano is adding meal specials on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
“There has been a bar here since at least the 50s. It’s gone under a lot of different owners and different names. I started bar tending here when it was under the name “Louie & Ramona’s” before that it was under the name “TNT.” Around five years ago the owner retired and she sold it to me,” Renee Marturano explained. “We have a great night crowd but we wanted to get some daytime business. We have meal specials from 11 a.m. until 7 in the evening on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Mondays we have half-pound burgers, on Wednesday we have half-racks of baby back ribs and fries for $10 and on Fridays we serve steak and baked potato for $11. My partner Brandon Black prepares the food out back by the patio area.
He comes in on Wednesday morning and prepares the ribs for five hours. He also grills the burgers and steaks. The steaks are a thick rib-eye. I have a lot of people who order them to go.”
Menu choice range from steak fajita quesadilla ($5) and chicken quesadillas ($4) to an Italian Sub ($5), a Hot Ham & Cheese Sandwich ($4), and flatbread pizzas ranging fom $4-$5 depending on how they are topped.
“We have appetizers and snacks like corn dogs, onion rings and fries. In the winter months we’re looking to adding some soups and chili. I’m also looking to add some salads. Right now, we’re getting a feel for what people want. We’re trying stuff and seeing how it goes. I’m also coming up with a new cocktail menu,” Marturano said.
“We do a Lady’s Night with a $10 drink special on well drinks and domestic beer from 8 until 11 p.m. We are also going to have a two-day ‘Halloweekend’ later this month which will have a costume contest and karaoke. Everyone who comes here really likes the karaoke and we do it every Friday and Saturday night,” Marturano said.
