WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) _ Massachusetts’ Anthony Catterton threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Minutemen overpowered Holy Cross 28-10 Saturday.

Catterton completed 9 of 17 passes for 224 yards. UMass’ (1-1) Ron Brockinton gained 108 yards and Frank Alessio 103.

Holy Cross (0-1) lost the debut of head coach Dan Allen.

In the first quarter, Catterton hit tight end Erik Henry for a 35-yard score, then ran three yards for a 14-0 lead.

The Crusaders’ Dana Fiaparone then kicked a 27-yard field goal.

But Catterton hit Brian Healy for a 23-yard score for a 21-3 lead.

Holy Cross quarterback Byron Stapp hit wide receiver Brian Hopkins for a 4-yard score just before the half. Stapp finished with 179 yards.

In the third quarter, Catterton hit Torey Hamilton for the final score.
