Rojas, Hawk fishing for the weekend in Alabama
Dean Rojas is in great position to make his second weekend cut this season and Roy Hawk is right near the cutline entering today’s elimination round of the Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour Stage Five on Smith Lake in Cullman, Alabama.
Rojas caught 25 bass weighing 44 pounds, 2 ounces in Wednesday’s shotgun round and sits in fifth place in Group B. While in a comfortable position, more than 17 pounds from missing the cut, his lead isn’t safe with the ‘every fish counts’ format and a fertile body of water.
Hawk enters the day in 23rd place after catching 15 bass at 24-0 in the shotgun round. He is 2 pounds, 9 ounces off the cut, still easily within reach of making the weekend with a good day on the lake.
The cut in Group A finished at 48-10 on Thursday, the day ending in a tiebreaker with Idaho’s Brandon Palaniuk advancing after catching more total fish.
Today’s Group B elimination round begins at 7 a.m. MST and will be streamed on MajorLeagueFishing.com. A postgame show will begin on the site at 2 p.m. after the competition ends.
