Report: Ducks Sign Teemu Selanne
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) _ Teemu Selanne, the NHL keader with 50 goals, has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, a broadcast report said.
Team spokesman Rob Scichili would not confirm the report, saying only that the club would make a major announcement at a news conference today.
Selanne is signed through the 1999-2000 season. The extension would keep him from becoming a restricted free agent, and he would be bound to the Mighty Ducks for four seasons after this contract ends.
Quoting sources, sports radio station XTRA/Tijuana, Mexico, which serves the San Diego market, reported that Selanne would receive about $7 million in each year of the extension.
The Ducks signed their other star player, Paul Kariya, to a $15 million, two-year contract in December after a 32-game holdout.
