George Berge: A terrific time at Paddyfest
Editor: Sorry the April 2 commenter didn’t enjoy the Paddyfest. Yes the bands were way too loud, something that a call to the promoter could correct for future events. Hard rock concert, hardly. Irish groups were brought in from Europe for the event, along with Celtic bagpipers, Country music, Tom Petty and U2 bands knockoff bands rounded out the genre for all. This was the first Paddyfest in Lake Havasu and it had growing pains. My wife and I attended all four days and had a terrific time. We are seniors and would not tolerate unruly drunk crowds and there were none. Yes, people were drinking alcohol and yes, some may have had too much. However, we never encountered any poor behavior other than an occasional inconsiderate “vapor” smoker. The attendee age range was toddlers to seniors. We watched many children and parents having family fun. There were numerous vendors for all ages as well as activities for kids, from pony rides and face painting to zip lines.
The commenter said he was deceived; you were hardly deceived sir. The Paddyfest was widely publicized in handouts, posters and social media, including the band lineup. Is there room for improvement, absolutely. Should Paddyfest be canceled next year, no. They will learn from this year and make it better in years to come.
