Schmidt scores 29 in Knights’ 69-61 victory at Raceland

RACELAND, Ky. — Cabell Midland overcame a 33-25 halftime deficit to defeat homestanding Raceland 69-61 Friday night in boys high school basketball.

Freshman guard Chandler Schmidt scored 29 point to lead the Knights (13-5). Ty Sturm scored 10 and handed out 13 assists. Jake Edward grabbed 15 rebounds.

Cabell Midland used a 19-10 run in the third quarter to take the lead, then finished off Raceland (12-10) in the final eight minutes.

Kirk Pence led the Rams with 19 points. Kyle Adkins scored 15 and Greg Mershon 13.

CHAPMANVILLE 59, LOGAN 53: The Tigers (16-2) jumped to an 18-9 lead and held off the Wildcats (17-3) at the Logan Field House. Devin Collins and Andrew Shull led Chapmanville with 15 points each. David Early led Logan with 24 points and Drew Hatfield 11.

HAMILTON HEIGHTS 60, HUNTINGTON ST. JOE 49: The Eagles (19-2), out of Chattanooga, Tennessee, built a 16-point halftime lead and held off a late charge by the Irish (16-2) at Wesley Christian Academy in Allen, Kentucky. Huntington St. Joe pulled within six late, but couldn’t catch up against the No. 16 team in the country, as rated by MaxPreps. Treasure Hunt led Hamilton Heights with 23 points. Trinity Brady chipped in 14. Paige Shy paced St. Joe with 16 points. Baylee Adkins scored 15 and Dena Jarrells 13.

CHE SAPE AKE 51 , GALLIA ACADEMY 24: Panthers Karli Davis and Carly Harkless celebrated their Senior Night with a victory over the Blue Angels on Norm Persin Court. Davis scored 13, grabbed nine rebounds and issued five assists. Maddie Ward scored 18, snared six rebounds and made three steals. Blake Anderson scored 13 and made four steals. Junon Ohmura led Gallia Academy with 12 points.

Chesapeake (9-13 overall, 6-8 Ohio Valley Conference) plays Wellston (10-9) at 5 p.m. Monday in a Division III sectional tournament game at Jackson High School. Gallia Academy (6-15, 2-12) plays its Division II sectional opener Thursday vs. Sheridan (17-2) at Wellston High School.

WOODROW WILSON 74, HURRICANE 44: The Flying Eagles (11-7) trailed after the first quarter but rolled from there, earning the road win. Victoria Staunton led Woodrow Wilson with 18 points, Cloey Frant added 15 and Elizabeth Cadle 13. Nadia Legros scored 21 for Hurricane (4-14). Callen Bostic chipped in 10.

CHAPMANVILLE 58, LOGAN 46: Madison Webb led the visiting Tigers (13-5) with 18 points and Allie Williamson added 15. Peyton Ilderton tossed in 20 points, Brittney Welch scored 12 and Alexis Perry grabbed 10 rebounds for Logan (12-8).

IRONTON 63, LUCASVILLE VALLEY 41: Haley Stevens scored 18 on six 3-pointers to help the Fighting Tigers (10-12) over the Indians at the Conley Center. Samantha Lafon scored 14 and pulled down 13 rebounds. Riley Schreck scored 11 and Elli Williams 10. Karsyn Conway led Valley (9-13) with 14 points.

ATHENS 47, RIVER VALLEY 41: Laura Manderick scored 13 as the Bulldogs broke a seven-game losing streak and beat the Raiders (5-17) in Bidwell, Ohio. Kelsey Brown led River Valley with 12 points.

POINT PLEASANT 61, SCOTT 25: Brooke Warner’s career-best 23 points lifted the homestanding Big Blacks (4-16) over the Skyhawks (2-19). Allison Henderson and DaNayla Ward added 14 points each. Shea Miller scored 15 to lead Scott.

MEIGS 48, WARREN 38: Freshman Mallory Hawley scored 17 and senior Kassidy Betzing 13 as the Marauders (14-8) won in Vincent, Ohio. Sommer Saboley led the Warriors (11-7) with eight points.

HANNAN 57, TVC 19: Josie McCoy celebrated her Senior Night with 11 points to lead the Wildcats (7-9) over Teays Valley Christian.

ASHLAND 65, BATH COUNTY 57: Ryan Bryant, Devaunte Robinson and Ethan Sellars scored 12 apiece as the Tomcats (12-12) defeated the Wildcats (11-15) in Owingsville, Kentucky. Jake Porter scored 20 for Bath County.

LAWRENCE CO. 88, JOHNSON CENTRAL 83: Cody Maynard led the Bulldogs (19-7) with 30 points in a victory over the Eagles in Paintsville, Kentucky. Noah Fairchild scored 11 and snared 13 rebounds. Chase Sartin scored 12. Cory Vanhoose scored 40 on 19-for-20 shooting for Johnson Central (19-6). Isaiah May added 15 points.

LINCOLN COUNTY 81, BUFFALO 40: Coy Garretson scored 18 and snatched 10 rebounds as the Panthers (17-2), ranked 10th in Class AA, routed the Bison (6-10). Hunter Hill scored 16, Tanner Walls 13 and Kadin Beckelheimer 11. Nathan Gibson and Alec Hanshaw each scored eight for Buffalo.
