IN THE NEWS: TIME WARNER - AT&T DEAL

WASHINGTON (AP) — AT&T is stepping up its battle to defend its planned takeover of Time Warner. The telecommunications giant has filed court documents arguing that the Trump administration, which opposes the union, has failed to show that the merger will raise prices for consumers. The $81 billion AT&T-Time Warner marriage was completed this spring soon after a federal judge approved it. But government antitrust regulators are trying to have the judge’s ruling overturned, setting the stage for a landmark competition case in the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington.

IN THE NEWS: AMAZON OFFERINGS ROLLED OUT

NEW YORK (AP) — Your word would be Amazon’s command — at least when it comes to a batch of new devices the online retailer is rolling out. The company has unveiled new gadgets aimed at realizing its goal of putting its Alexa voice assistant anywhere its customers are. Among the new products are an Amazon-branded microwave. It works with Echo devices — and can be told to defrost a bag of frozen peas or reheat a cup of coffee. There is also a new Echo for cars that works with most vehicles and can be used to play podcasts, give directions or make phone calls.

ON THE WEB: CLEVELAND BROWNS WIN

CYBERSPACE (AP) — For the first time in more than a year, the Cleveland Browns and their long-suffering fans are savoring the taste of victory. And they did so under the guidance of their new quarterback Baker Mayfield. He replaced injured starter Tyrod Taylor and sparked the Browns to a 21-71 win over the New York Jets. The team’s last win was Dec. 24, 2016 — 635 days ago. That means 19 straight losses.

IN STORES: NEW iPHONES HITS STORES TODAY

NEW YORK (AP) — A new iPhone release isn’t the kind of doorbuster event that it used to be. But still you can expect increased traffic at Apple’s stores and authorized retailers as its new models hit the market today. They are the iPhone XS and the iPhone XR. Both devices boast of super retina displays and features like faster seed and an improved dual-camera system. Apple is also releasing a new version of its Watch. The Series 4 version of the device offers increased health-monitoring features.
