Northern Arizona University announces top pick for provost
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Northern Arizona University officials have selected a longtime faculty member as their top pick for provost.
The Arizona Daily Sun reported Saturday that university President Rita Cheng had announced Dr. Diane Stearns’ selection for the second-highest administrative position on the school’s Flagstaff campus.
The appointment must go before the Arizona Board of Regents in April for final approval.
Stearns began teaching at NAU in 1993 as an assistant chemistry professor. She most recently has served as interim dean of the College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences.
She was one of 103 provost applicants, and the only faculty member at the school to apply.
She starts July 1 if approved by the Board of Regents. The job comes with a $260,000 annual salary.
