INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan each had two goals and two assists and Chris Osgood shut out the Los Angeles Kings for the second time in two meetings this season, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 6-0 victory Saturday night.
Darren McCarty and rookie Tomas Holmstrom also scored for the Red Wings, who have allowed the fewest goals in the NHL and have yielded more than two only four times in their first 23 games.
Osgood, who turns 24 on Tuesday, earned his 11th career shutout and third of the season with 26 saves. He stopped all 19 shots by Los Angeles in a 3-0 triumph on Oct. 21 at Joe Louis Arena.
The Kings, who have scored only once in their last three games _ a power-play goal by Ray Ferraro _ were shut out at home for the first time since Arturs Irbe and the San Jose Sharks beat them 2-0 on Feb. 17, 1995.
Los Angeles coach Larry Robinson, who played seven seasons for Detroit coach Scotty Bowman during their five-time Stanley Cup reign at Montreal in the 1970s, is 0-5-2 in seven games against Bowman as a head coach. The Red Wings have outscored the Kings 28-13 during that span.
Playing in front of their first sellout crowd at the Forum since Wayne Gretzky's return with the St. Louis Blues last March 18, the Kings surrendered four goals on Detroit's first 11 shots at Stephane Fiset and were shut out for the fourth time this season.
The Red Wings opened the scoring at 10:11 of the first period as Yzerman redirected a centering pass from Shanahan. They made it 2-0 less than 4 1/2 minutes later on a power play with Kevin Stevens off for slashing Tim Taylor.
Holmstrom converted a rebound after Fiset stopped Vladimir Konstantinov's shot from the left point. Konstantinov earned his 100th NHL assist on the play.
Los Angeles defenseman Steven Finn attempted a clearing pass from behind the net in the opening minute of the second period, but the puck glanced off the stick of the forechecking Yzerman. Shanahan gobbled up the fortunate carom and scored into a wide-open net with Fiset out of position.
The Red Wings scored their fourth goal when Yzerman stickhandled past defenseman Rob Blake and converted his own rebound between Fiset and the left post for his ninth goal. Ten minutes later, McCarty took a perfect cross-ice feed from Yzerman and scored into an empty net after the Red Wings' captain drew Fiset to the right post.
Shanahan ended the scoring with his 11th goal, converting a rebound of Aaron Ward's shot.
